How to Participate

We welcome your participation in whatever way suits your personal preferences and needs for prayer as well as community.

Relative to prayer:
You can pray along with us silently or virtually aloud by retweeting (RT) prayers as they appear in your Twitter stream. Most participants RT prayers or phrases from  psalms/readings that have special resonance in that moment.  Others participate by tweeting only responses like “Amen” and “Thanks be to God.”  Note: Unless you want prayers to appear  on your personal Facebook wall, remember to delete #fb before retweeting.

Use whichever online  technology works best for you — the web-based version of Twitter or applications such as TweetDeck or HootSuite.

Feeling called to participate on our prayer team? Please let us know by sending a direct message (DM) on Twitter to @virtual_abbey or contact us here.

Relative to community life:
You’re most welcome to use your spiritual and secular gifts to help build our community by 1) participating in the public conversation; 2) writing for our blog or leaving comments that generate thoughtful conversation; 3) recommending/providing resources.

As you get to know names of active participants, you’ll notice conversations emerging before and after times of formal prayer. Feel free to join in any conversation you see taking place in the Twitter stream. We tend to treat it like our virtual social hall. Real connections; fake coffee and donuts.

Relative to The Virtual Abbey blog:
Editorial guidelines are available by contacting our editor. Quick summary: posts run 200-500 words and are copyedited before being posted. We have a policy of posting dissenting/challenging viewpoints as long as they are clearly offered in a lovingly Christian spirit of inquiry.
